The workmanship to restore our broken spindle wooden chair was amazing!! You cannot even tell that one spindle was ever split. Mark responded quickly to every email and was honest with his opinion about the restoration. It was as simple as making a phone call, emailing a photo and a week later our family heirloom was restored! He even offered to pick up the chair for us! If you ever have something to be restored I would highly recommend Furniture Medic.

Reupholster and image enhance!

Our customer wanted to bring the life back to her dining room set. They did not want to spend $$$$ on striping & refinishing them because of two reasons. 1 the cost and 2 the fact that the furniture would lose its patina. We were able to reupholster the chairs replaced the foam and image enhance the frames for under $1000. See the before and after photos and customer review below.

10/10 Lynore Abbott It’s hard to find someone who cares about your old furniture as much as you do. These guys took great care of my 100 year old dining room table and chairs. They look great and a heck of a lot less beat up.

Commercial Office furniture-Image enhancement

We were asked to repair and restore the office furniture at Western Refining who had recently moved office location and wanted to use that time to repair some common damage problems that nearly each piece of furniture had. Namely dents gouges and worn desk edges. There were 30 offices with about 3-4 items of furniture it took us on average 30mins per office, and they were ready for use immediately after. See below our customer review and some before and after photos.

Acetone spill on coffee table top!

We received a call from a customer that had just purchased a brand new coffee table with a beautiful veneered top. Unfortunately the lid from a nail varnish remover was left on it for just a few seconds. That was all the time needed to completely ruin the finish and stain of the table. Furniture Medic by Bespoke Restoration was able to repair the damage on-site using our precision repair techniques. See below our customer review and before and after photos.

Scratch and gouge removal-Precision Repair.

The technical term for any type of scratch, nick, dent or gouge removal is called a Precision Repair. We completed this repair in less than 1 hour and in the customer’s home. From 3 ft away this repair seems to vanish.  The customer and his wife said they could not find it even knowing where the damage once was. See the before and after photos and our review below;

17th Century wood carved statue of St Anne.

This is by far the oldest wood item we have restored. It is a family heirloom that our customer had inherited from her parents. She really wanted to display it again and have it rest in her home. Due to the fact we had never worked on such an item we were apprehensive and began setting expectations with the customer. After many hours of very careful restoration the final outcome was beyond all expectations. Please see the before, during and after photos below along with our customer review.

Mark Ryan seems like a very knowledgeable and talented craftsman who is dedicated and takes pride in doing the job right. He also demonstrated that he will use research and creative problem-solving to resolve a unique problem or to repair a unique piece. He was timely and efficient, and he gave great value for the price.

I like that he took ownership of the projects and tasks that he took on. He was professional but friendly—a good combination for someone dealing with special belongings in one’s home.

Image enhancement without stripping & refinishing.

We were asked to repair and preserve two family heirlooms. The shelf unit had been kept next to an open fire so over the years it had built up dark layers of soot and wax that the family had used to finish the piece. We had to clean and remove the decades of buildup whilst being careful not to go through the original finish. Once the surface was clean we used a colored wax to brighten and protect the finish. The results are that we were able to maintain and preserve the patina but give it a fresh, cleaner look.

We had our family cradle, that’s almost 200 years old, shipped to us. The shippers damage meant the cradle at one end had come apart. Also there was water damage to the finish on both ends of the cradle. We obviously wanted it fixed but didn’t want it to lose its integrity as an old piece. We just got the cradle back and it looks great. Can’t tell it was ever hurt!

Also had a southern “what not”, a type of shelf unit that was so blackened by old beeswax and dirt of decades…again, we wanted it to look as it should, a beautiful old piece that had seen much history but wore it well! Mark was able to carefully clean it and wax it. Now we still can tell it’s old but we see it’s colour and wood grain and it’s lovely!

Barrel Trunk Restoration-circa 1871

This has been the largest trunk restoration we have completed to date. Our customer wanted a restoration but also wanted us to retain the 100+ years of patina. We first set about hand cleaning the tin which had years of rust dirt and grim build up. We believe that the trunk also had fire damage which had caused a darkening of the wood and tin. We then set about remaking the broken base slider and then replacing a broken corner runner. The next replacement parts were the leather handles and lid tab. These were all hand made by our upholstery dept. The interior was upgraded from paper to cedar panels. Lastly we used a satin water based lacquer to seal and protect the exterior thus preserving the patina we had uncovered. See the results below and our customer review.

I brought Mark a project I had sitting in my garage for close to 15 years. It was an old travel trunk that my father had purchased at a Flea Market in San Francisco. I remember it being in our house all my life. By the time it found Mark it was not in the finest condition and needed more love than I could provide. I took the trunk to Mark’s shop and we discussed what my expectation were and what kind of time it would take to deliver on them. I asked him to attempt to preserve as much of the original trunk as possible and to leave it’s reflection of age and wear… to me that was integral to it’s identity. (All too often a restorer will make the item appear “new” and that is what I did not want.) Mark understood what I was asking for and moved ahead enthusiastically. In the end, while I think the project took a bit longer than he anticipated, the trunk is absolutely beautiful. It has been brought back to a well preserved representation of an antique it’s age. It is perfect. I always fear handing off projects I have spent considerable time thinking about to others. In this case the finished result exceeded my expectations. Cheers and Thanks, Mark. -Mike 10/10

Furniture restoration without the hassle of strip & refinishing it!

Our customer had inherited a chair owned by her mother. Structurally the chair was in good condition but the upholstery was a little dated and did not suite its new homes décor. The finish was in good condition but it had years of dust and body oil built up. (The two mix very well unfortunately) We were able to clean off the built up areas and restore the wood by adding a toner stain and a protective layer of finish. We then recommended our upholsterer Ramon of Q-House. He was able to recover the piece and the results now speak for themselves.
